Why Roofs Are Soft Washed
Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association guidance warns against using a power washer or brush to clean algae from asphalt shingles. A low-pressure application is used instead so the cleaning process does not rely on water force against the roof surface.
Tile and metal roofs also require material-specific care. Loose tiles, cracked areas, failing coatings, exposed fasteners, oxidation and drainage concerns should be noted before cleaning.
What Causes Dark Roof Streaks?
Dark streaks are often associated with algae or other organic growth rather than ordinary dirt. Warm, humid conditions and shaded roof sections can make the discoloration more visible. Tree cover and slow-drying areas may contribute to uneven growth across the roof.
Roof cleaning can improve appearance, but it does not repair worn shingles, damaged flashing, leaks, broken tiles, corroded metal or ventilation problems. House exteriors below the roof line are often handled with soft washing. Runoff onto driveways is managed as part of the plan.

What to Expect After Treatment
Some discoloration changes quickly; heavier growth may lighten over time as treated residue releases. Aggressive brushing or blasting to force an instant result can be harder on the roof than a patient low-pressure process.
If the roof has active leaks, loose materials, major damage or uncertain warranty requirements, a roofing professional or manufacturer should be consulted before cleaning.

No. Asphalt shingles should not be blasted with high pressure. Roof cleaning should use a low-pressure method that follows the roof material and manufacturer guidance.
Will roof cleaning fix a leak?
