Short answer: proper sealing is a multi-day job — clean, dry fully, re-sand, then two coats. Anyone offering to clean and seal in one visit is skipping the drying step, and that is what causes cloudy, milky pavers. Cost runs $1.25–$2.75 per square foot.
A well-sealed paver surface holds its colour for years, sheds oil and leaf stain, keeps the joint sand locked in place, and makes every future cleaning easier. A badly sealed one turns milky white, traps moisture underneath, peels in patches, and costs more to strip than the original job cost to install.
The difference between those two outcomes is almost never the product. It is whether the surface was properly dry before the sealer went on.

What a proper seal involves
Five stages, spread across at least two visits. There is no version of this that finishes in an afternoon.

Clean thoroughly
Reduced-pressure clean, weeds and moss removed, all staining treated. Anything left under the sealer is sealed in permanently.

Dry completely
24 to 72 hours depending on weather and shade. This is the step that decides whether the job succeeds.

Re-sand the joints
Polymeric sand swept in, compacted, and activated to the manufacturer's spec.

First coat
Applied evenly, worked into the joints, no pooling in low spots.

Second coat
Once the first has flashed off. One coat is not sealing — it is tinting.
Why do my pavers look cloudy or milky after sealing?
Moisture trapped underneath the sealer. Either the pavers were not dry when it went on, or rain landed on it before it cured, or a solvent-based product was applied over a damp base.
It is not a cosmetic issue that fades. The moisture is physically sealed beneath a film, and the only real fix is stripping the sealer off and starting again — which typically costs more than the original job. This is the single best reason to refuse a same-day clean-and-seal.
Then it stays off-limits. Foot traffic after 24 hours, vehicles after 48 to 72. Rain inside the first 24 hours on an uncured coat is the other classic cause of a milky finish, which is why we watch the forecast rather than the calendar.

A word on slip resistance, because it matters more than the brochures suggest. Around a pool, a wet-look finish gets genuinely slippery. If you want that appearance on a pool deck, ask for a grip additive mixed into the top coat. It costs very little and it is the kind of thing you only think about once someone has fallen.

When the existing sealer has already failed
If your pavers are peeling, flaking, cloudy or sticky in the heat, sealing over the top will not help. It has to come off first.
