How to read a before-and-after photo
Worth knowing, because this is the easiest thing in the industry to fake and most people have never been told what to look for.
- Is it the same angle? If the camera moved between shots, you are comparing two photographs rather than two states of one surface.
- Is the "after" wet? Wet concrete is always darker and more uniform than dry concrete. A wet after-shot hides stripes and patchiness that appear once it dries.
- Is the "before" in shade and the "after" in sun? Lighting does more work in some of these images than the pressure washer did.
- Is only a strip cleaned? A single clean band across a dirty slab is a demonstration, not a finished job.
We apply those tests to our own photos. Where a slot below is a placeholder, it is because we would rather show nothing than show a stock image of somebody else's house.

On pavers, look at the joints in the after-shot rather than the paver faces. Sand still in place means it was cleaned at the right pressure. See paver cleaning, pool decks and fence cleaning.

Stain photos are where honesty matters most. Old oil lightens; it rarely disappears, and an after-shot showing perfectly clean concrete where a four-year-old transmission leak used to be is worth a second look. See rust removal and oil removal.
